Born in 1942 in Junagadh, Gujarat, Solanki is an accomplished Indian artist renowned on a global scale for his remarkable body of work. He earned his diploma in Painting and Post Diploma in Graphics from M. S. University in Baroda in 1980 and 1982, respectively.
During his formative years, Solanki was inherently drawn to the world of art and captivated by the beauty of nature and the inhabitants of his village. Through a skilful manipulation of light and shadow, he captures the essence of daily life in Gujarat, portraying its men and women in his exquisite artworks. Solanki meticulously highlights the intricate traditional attire worn by his subjects while intentionally omitting the finer facial details, resulting in a striking and surreal quality in his pieces.
From 1982 to 1987, Vrindavan Solanki served as a visiting faculty member at the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad. Additionally, he was a part of the Lalit Kala Academy in Gujarat from 1987 to 1990. His art has graced numerous solo exhibitions and group showcases, both in India and abroad. Notable solo exhibitions include those held at the Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai (1969, 1971, 1972, 1989, and 1992), the Taj Art Gallery in Mumbai (1981), and the Continental Hotel Curepipe in Mauritius (1991). His works have also been featured in group exhibitions at the Academy of Fine Arts in Calcutta (1970), the Manhattan Graphics Centre in New York (2004), and the Art Trend Galleria in Hong Kong (2004).
