Manu Parekh

Manu Parekh’s compositions resonate with the rich traditions of Indian folk art, seamlessly blending with modernist sensibilities that transcend mere representation. Fascinated by the interplay of organic forms, Parekh’s works elicit a profound, visceral response. His oeuvre encompasses vibrant abstractions, sexual imagery, and figuration, drawing inspiration from both nature and the complexities of daily life and social issues.

In recognition of his contributions, Parekh received the President of India’s silver plaque and the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society’s award in 1972, followed by the national award from the Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, in 1982. In 1992, he was bestowed with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. His retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art also traveled to Mumbai and Bengaluru.
